New Location, Same Trusted Care: Berkeley Medical Center Relocates Outpatient Lab

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. – WVU Medicine Berkeley Medical Center today announced plans to relocate its Outpatient Laboratory to Medical Office Building 1 on the medical center campus, enhancing patient access to outpatient laboratory services.

The current outpatient lab location within the hospital will close for relocation on Thursday, June 25, and will reopen in its new location on Monday, June 29, at 7 a.m. Patients can expect the same high-quality care and services delivered by the same trusted team, now in a more accessible setting.

“Relocating our outpatient laboratory allows us to better meet the needs of our patients by offering care in a more convenient location outside of the hospital,” said Chuck DiBello, vice president of operations, Berkeley Medical Center. “This move also supports our ability to expand and accommodate additional inpatient services within the hospital, ensuring we continue to provide the highest level of care in our community.”

In addition to the relocation, updated hours will take effect in July. Beginning Saturday, July 11, the Medical Office Building 1 location will be the only outpatient laboratory open on Saturdays. The Spring Mills lab will transition to Monday through Friday service only.

Transforming Care: Patient Tower Project

The relocation supports the hospital’s broader patient tower project; a transformative $200 million investment focused on expanding and modernizing patient care spaces across the Berkeley Medical Center campus. Moving Outpatient Laboratory Services from the main hospital aligns with future patient flow and access improvements planned as part of the project.

Project highlights include:

• Increased inpatient capacity through the elimination of all semi-private rooms.
• Replacement of the LINAC (linear accelerator) at the WVU Cancer Institute to support advanced cancer care.
• Expanded facilities designed to meet the community’s growing health care needs.

The new patient tower is expected to open in early 2028.
