What We Do
The WVU Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute Department of Behavioral Medicine & Psychiatry provides specialized behavioral health services for children, adolescents, and their families. Our programs are designed to support emotional, behavioral, developmental, and trauma-related needs through evidence-based, family-centered care.
We work closely with families, schools, pediatric providers, and community partners to help young people thrive at every stage of development.
Who We Are
Our services support children and adolescents who:
- Are struggling with emotional or behavioral challenges
- Are experiencing anxiety, depression, ADHD, mood concerns, or the effects of trauma
- Are part of families navigating complex behavioral health needs
- Have been affected by abuse, neglect, or family substance use
- Are going through a crisis or facing safety or day-to-day functioning concerns
- Are experiencing eating disorders
Outpatient Services
Comprehensive outpatient care includes individual, group, and family therapy, psychiatric/psychological evaluations, medication management, and care coordination. Evidence-based therapies offered include cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), trauma-informed psychotherapy, parent-child interactive therapy, and supportive, behavioral, and family therapies.
Outpatient Child & Adolescent Psychiatry
Psychiatric evaluation, diagnosis, and medication management for children and teens, tailored to developmental needs.
Individual, Family & Group Therapy
Evidence-based therapy approaches, including trauma-informed care, CBT, play-based therapy, and family systems therapy.
Inpatient Adolescent Psychiatry
Hospital-based care for youth ages 13-17 experiencing acute psychiatric crises requiring 24/7 supervision and stabilization.
Behavioral & Developmental Services
Support for emotional regulation, behavioral challenges, and developmental concerns affecting school and home life.
Consultation & Care Coordination
Collaboration with pediatricians, schools, and community providers to support continuity of care.
