Vascular Surgery
Our vascular experts identify and treat the root causes of symptoms – and intervene early to prevent silent threats from becoming serious.
Delivering world-class, compassionate care at every stage – from diagnosis through treatment and recovery
At the WVU Heart and Vascular Institute, our board-certified, fellowship-trained vascular surgeons expertly perform a wide range of complex open and endovascular procedures to treat vascular diseases affecting healthy blood flow, utilizing the latest state-of-the-art technologies.
We provide comprehensive care – from urgent interventions for blocked vessels to personalized, long-term treatment plans – collaborating closely with cardiac surgery, cardiology, interventional radiology, and rehabilitation specialists to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
Our team is actively involved in advancing vascular care through the Society for Vascular Surgery’s Vascular Quality Initiative (VQI) registry. Serving as medical director and data coordinator for the region on the VQI National Governing Council and Research Advisory Committee, we lead efforts to improve evidence-based care statewide. For the fifth consecutive year, our division has earned the prestigious VQI three-star rating, reflecting our commitment to excellence in vascular patient care.

- Open bypass vascular procedures when indicated
- Stenting (insertion of narrow tubes that provide structural blood-vessel support)
- Trans-tibial (below the knee) and pedal (foot and arch circulation) interventions
- Transcarotid artery revascularization and percutaneous transfemoral intervention for carotid occlusive disease
Complex Aorta Care
Complex aortic surgery at WVU Heart and Vascular Institute is delivered through a multidisciplinary approach, with cardiac and vascular specialists working closely together.
Our team manages the full spectrum of aortic conditions, including complex dissections, aneurysms, and infections.
We use advanced imaging techniques, such as EKG-gated CT angiography and dynamic MRI, to guide diagnosis and treatment. While traditional open aortic surgery remains an option when necessary, we also offer cutting-edge endovascular procedures using fenestrated and branched stent grafts to provide less invasive solutions.
