What Care Do I Need?
Determining the care you need depends on whether you require immediate, ongoing, or daily assistance. Options range from primary/preventive care (check-ups) to acute care (hospitals) or long-term, home-based support for daily activities. A professional evaluation of your physical, mental, and daily functioning is necessary to determine your appropriate level of care.
Emergency Care
Emergency services are necessary for situations that may cause permanent damage or death. Seek emergency care or call 911 immediately for life-threatening symptoms, including severe chest pain, difficulty breathing, uncontrolled bleeding, sudden confusion, fainting, stroke symptoms (facial drooping, weakness), or severe, sudden pain.
Primary Care
For non-emergency medical care, primary care providers are an essential part of our healthcare team. They specialize in diagnosing, treating, and helping to prevent a wide variety of conditions. Primary care providers get to know you, your history, and your family history. They can recommend screenings, as well as identify and treat many minor problems before they become major ones.
If you’re experiencing any undiagnosed symptoms or medical concerns, a WVU Medicine primary care provider should be your first point of contact for improved well-being. If you need more specialized care, the provider will coordinate a referral with one of our WVU Medicine specialists. They will work together to provide you with the best possible medical management of your condition. WVU Medicine is committed to providing high quality primary care close to home for patients of all ages, including infants, children, adults, and seniors.
Urgent Care
WVU Medicine Urgent Care provides the help you need for non-emergency health issues. Our team treats people of all ages for a wide range of illnesses and injuries, including abdominal pain, broken bones, coughs, colds, flu, infections, rashes, sprains, strains, and more.
No appointments are necessary at our clinics. Video visits are also available. Days, evenings, weekends, and holidays – we’re ready to get you back on track as quickly as possible. Most of our locations are open seven days a week, with on-site lab and x-ray services, for one-stop care by our friendly, professional staff.
