WVU Medicine Center for Nursing Education Begins Accepting Applications at Martinsburg Campus
Opportunity open to provide hospital-based nursing education with tuition covered
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. (Aug. 11, 2026) – The WVU Medicine Center for Nursing Education is now accepting online applications for the inaugural Fall 2027 cohort of its new nursing diploma program in Martinsburg.
The 21-month program provides students with a high-quality, hospital-based nursing education. In exchange for full tuition and fee waivers, graduates commit to working for WVU Medicine for three years after completing the program in any of the health system's hospitals.
The Center for Nursing Education will be located at the future home of Berkeley County Schools' Career and Technical Education Center in Martinsburg, creating a local pathway for aspiring nurses to pursue rewarding healthcare careers while helping address workforce needs across the region.
“Removing the financial barriers to nursing education can be life-changing for students,” said Tanya Rogers, Ed.D., M.S.N., R.N., C.N.E., assistant vice president of nursing education at the WVU Medicine Center for Nursing Education. “By covering tuition and fees, we are opening doors for individuals who are driven to serve others and creating opportunities for them to enter the profession with confidence. At the same time, we are strengthening the healthcare workforce our communities depend on.”
The expansion comes at a critical time as population growth and increasing healthcare demands continue across the Eastern Panhandle.
“As our region continues to grow, so does the need for skilled healthcare professionals,” said Samantha Richards, chief nursing and operations officer, WVU Medicine Berkeley Medical Center. “This partnership represents a long-term investment in our community. By educating future nurses close to home, we are building a sustainable pipeline of caregivers who will help meet the healthcare needs of our patients and communities for years to come.”
To be eligible for enrollment, applicants must have earned a high school diploma, GED, or TASC equivalent and have achieved a C average or higher in high school or college algebra, chemistry, and English prior to the first day of classes.
Applications and all required materials must be submitted by Oct. 5, 2026, for consideration for the inaugural cohort, which is scheduled to begin classes in August 2027. Enrollment periods for the Martinsburg location will continue annually each August.
