WVU Medicine Children’s Pediatric and Adolescent Group Practice receives fifth consecutive national recognition
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The WVU Medicine Children’s Pediatric and Adolescent Group Practice received its Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCHM) Recognition from the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA).
This is the fifth year the Pediatric and Adolescent Group Practice has been recognized for delivering high-quality, personal, coordinated, and family-centered care.
“Achieving PCMH recognition is a reflection of the incredible teamwork and dedication across our entire pediatric care team,” Rafka Chaiban, M.D., associate chief quality officer for WVU Medicine Children’s, said. “It means we’re not just treating illness — we’re building lasting relationships with families, coordinating care across specialties, and making sure every child receives the right support at every stage of their health journey.”
Patient-centered medical home is a clinical care model that prioritizes patients and fosters stronger relationships between them and their care teams.
To maintain PCMH recognition, WVU Medicine Children’s committed to continuous quality improvement and transformed its care model to align with national recognized evidence-based standards.
The team enhanced access to care with same-day appointments and extended hours, strengthened coordination between primary care providers and specialists, and improved communication tools like patient portals.
WVU Medicine Children’s also implemented performance tracking to collect data on outcomes, patient satisfaction, and team collaboration. This allowed teams to track their performance and make sure that care remained centered around the needs of each child and family.
“PCMH recognition is more than a milestone — it’s a reflection of our unwavering commitment to families across West Virginia and beyond,” Dr. Chaiban said. “It shows that our care is not only compassionate and coordinated but also grounded in evidence-based practices that put children and families first. Whether your child needs a routine checkup or complex specialty care, we’re honored to be your trusted partner every step of the way.”
The NCQA is a private non-profit organization dedicated to improving healthcare quality. It accredits and certifies a wide range of healthcare organizations each year. It also recognizes clinicians and practices in key areas of performance. NCQA’s Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set (HEDIS®) is the most widely used performance measurement tool in healthcare.
