MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The Mountain State Cystic Fibrosis Center at WVU Medicine Children’s received continued accreditation from the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

“Accreditation by the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is the gold standard for CF care,” Casandra Arevalo Marcano, M.D., Center director, said.  “It means our center has met rigorous national benchmarks for quality, outcomes, and multidisciplinary care. It affirms that we are providing evidence-based, comprehensive care that aligns with the highest standards in the country.”

To receive re-certification, the Mountain State Cystic Fibrosis Center underwent a comprehensive review with the entire team that included submitting reports, on-site peer reviews, and demonstrating quality outcomes.

The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation highlighted strong points of the program in its review, including the experience of physicians and staff. It described the Mountain State Cystic Fibrosis Center staff as hard-working, devoted, and invested in their patients.

“We provide care through a dedicated, multidisciplinary team, including physicians, nurse coordinators, respiratory therapists, dietitians, social workers, and psychologists, who work together to tailor treatment for every patient,” Dr. Arevalo Marcano said. “We also actively participate in research and quality-improvement initiatives, which ensure our patients have access to cutting-edge therapies and the very best clinical practices.”

CF is a complex disease that can affect the body in many ways. The Mountain State Cystic Fibrosis Center treats and manages all related conditions and complications. Its patients have access to the most advanced treatment options for the best possible health and quality of life.

Patients are treated in a family-centered manner by specialists who can meet social, psychological, and emotional needs while providing world-class medical care.

“This certification truly reflects a team effort,” Arevalo Marcano said. “We have a shared commitment to providing exceptional care to patients and their families across the state and region.”
