WVU Medicine Bob Baronner Apple Trample 5K Returns October 17, to Support Local Cancer Patients
Martinsburg, W.Va. — The WVU Hospitals East Foundation is proud to announce the return of the WVU Medicine Bob Baronner Apple Trample 5K, a fundraising event dedicated to supporting local individuals battling cancer. The 2026 race will be held on Saturday, October 17, 2026, at 9 a.m., with a new course starting and finishing at War Memorial Park in Martinsburg, West Virginia.
The annual Apple Trample 5K aligns with the popular Mountain State Apple Harvest Festival, drawing runners, walkers, families, and community champions together for a meaningful cause.
Proceeds from the event benefit the WVU Hospitals East Foundation Cancer Comfort Fund and Cancer Services, which provide vital assistance to patients in the local community. These funds directly support urgent needs such as nutritional supplements, medications, gas cards for transportation to medical appointments, lodging for patients traveling long distances for care and much more.
“Every participant, sponsor, and donor makes a real difference in the lives of patients and families facing cancer right here in our community,” said Jeannie Constable, vice president of marketing and philanthropy, WVU Hospitals East. “The funds raised through the Apple Trample go far beyond treatment; they help meet immediate, everyday needs that can ease the burden during an incredibly difficult time. It’s a powerful reminder that when we come together, we can provide comfort, support, and hope to our neighbors who need it most.”
The event also honors the legacy of Bob Baronner, former President and CEO of Bank of Charles Town (now Potomac Bank) and a beloved community leader. After losing his battle with cancer in early 2017, his memory continues to inspire others. Potomac Bank, the race’s Elite Sponsor, proudly supports the Apple Trample 5K as a tribute to Baronner’s enduring impact.
Participants of all ages and fitness levels are encouraged to join in this inspiring event, whether running competitively or walking in support of loved ones affected by cancer.
