Frank Sabado Jr., MD Pickleball Classic Raises More Than $19,500 for Future Health Care Professionals
Community tournament supports local students pursuing careers in the medical field
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — A morning of pickleball competition and community spirit translated into a major investment in the future of local health care, with the WVU Hospitals East Foundation raising more than $19,500 through the 2026 Frank Sabado Jr., MD Pickleball Classic.
Held in honor of the late Dr. Frank Sabado Jr., the event brought together players of all ages and skill levels for a day of friendly competition, camaraderie and philanthropy. Proceeds from the tournament will support the Frank Sabado Jr., MD Scholarship Fund, which helps students from Berkeley, Jefferson and Morgan counties pursue careers in health care.
“The success of this year’s Frank Sabado Pickleball Classic is a reflection of what can happen when a community comes together with a shared purpose,” said Jeannie Constable, vice president of marketing and philanthropy for WVU Hospitals East. “To our sponsors, players, volunteers and committee members, thank you for believing in the future of health care in our region and investing in the next generation of caregivers. While we continue to invest in our hospitals, technology and facilities, it is ultimately compassionate, skilled health care professionals who bring our mission to life every day.”
Tournament champions included:
- Karina and Kevin Starliper, first-place winners of the 8:30 a.m. tournament.
- Noah Emmons and Tim Hoover, first-place winners of the noon tournament.
