Please join WVU President E. Gordon Gee and 2017 Gala Co-Chairs Dr. Hannah Hazard-Jenkins, Emily Lyons, Billy Pulice and Phil Reale as they and hundreds of others celebrate and educate about the important mission of our state’s leading comprehensive Cancer Institute.

Schedule of Events 

Friday April 28th 

Registration: 9:00 am - Noon

Continuing Education: 11:30 am – 2:30 pm
This optional three-hour information session during the afternoon will allow attendees an opportunity to learn and understand the mission of the WVU Cancer Institute as it relates to enhancing the survivorship and reducing the impact of cancer in our beloved Mountain State.

Distillery Tour: 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm (Depart 1:30pm)
Smooth Ambler Spirits, located in the rural Greenbrier Valley, will guide Gala participants around its production and bottling areas, explain the distilling process, and show them “The Rickhouse.” Space is limited, and pre-registration required. Contact Jaime Good at 304-293-4597.

 “Let’s Flamingle” Reception, Dine-Around Dinner and Dance:  6:00 pm – 11:00 pm
Delight your taste buds and savor a variety of favorites from The Greenbrier’s exceptional culinary and mixology teams.  Then, enjoy  WVU Men’s Head Basketball Coach Bob Huggins and other Special Guests to be announced, followed by an “Artrageous Experience,” featuring a performing arts show (speed painting, pictures will be available to the highest bidders!) and high energy music from The Pink Flamingos to close out the evening.

Saturday, April 29th

Connect with Clay & Albert:  9:30 am

Join Clay Marsh, M.D., vice president and executive dean of WVU Health Sciences, , will facilitate an open forum discussion with WVU Cancer Institute leadership – Richard Goldberg, M.D., director; Laura Gibson, Ph.D., deputy director; and William Petros, Pharm.D., former interim director of the Cancer Institute, along with Albert Wright, president and CEO of WVU Medicine. These leaders will provide updates on the Cancer Institute, WVU Medicine, and other issues and opportunities affecting the health of West Virginians.

Talk with Tony: 10:45 am 

Join WVU sportscaster Tony Caridi as he welcomes an all-star line-up from WVU Athletics, including Director of Athletics Shane Lyons and Olympic gold medal shooter and West Virginia Mountaineers collegiate champion Ginny Thrasher to discuss women in sports and a variety of hot topics sure to please Mountaineer fans.

Culinary Demonstration: 2:00 pm (Cookbook signing 3:00 pm)
For more than 30 years, Chef Laurie has prepared exquisite cuisine for presidents and celebrities across the country. Voted “Best Private Chef in Charleston, SC” (2015 and 2016), the author of Chef by Step – The World’s Easiest Cookbook will demonstrate quick, healthy recipes and tips for even the most experienced chef.

Champagne, Chocolates & Custom Jewelry with Joan Stamp 3:30 pm – 4:30 pm
WVU Cancer Institute friend and supporter, and BeadJeweled owner, Joan Stamp will close out the afternoon in the North Parlor, offering a variety of unique accessory opportunities and styling tips.  Join her for some Greenbrier chocolates and a glass of champagne, while exploring her exquisite hand-made pieces.

“Unmask Cancer” Black-Tie Masquerade Ball: 6:00 pm – 11:00 pm
The Gala Grand Finale features an elegant reception, live auction, multi-course dinner, and ballroom dancing.  Enjoy top-shelf beverages, fine dining, and the nonstop entertainment of Benny Benack, Jr. and his Orchestra.  Formal Attire and masks recommended.

Bonnie’s Bus tour:  noon to 2pm
The Bonnie Wells Wilson Mobile Mammography Program has a new, coach style Bonnie’s Bus and it will be available for tours on the North Lawn. Although not complete, the new Bus will have state-of-the-art 3D mammography with beautiful interior furnishings. Please join us on the new Bonnie’s Bus that will be serving the women of West Virginia.
